Why localization matters for businesses

Updated: Nov 16

Localization is definitely more than translation. Localization means personalization

Localization is a process that is becoming more and more relevant nowadays for companies that target multiple markets. Because when entering new markets, companies need to think global and act local in order to achieve success.

Localization is definitely more than translation, is a full language experience and it goes far beyond just language. It means adapting a product, service or content to a specific market or country and adding the locale-specific social and cultural layers.

In fact, localization means personalization. Personalization is at the top of the list when it comes to meeting customer needs and increasing sales.

Here are some figures that will help companies understand the importance of localization:

Based on a survey that included 8,709 global consumers in 29 countries (including Romania) conducted from November 2019 to January 2020, CSA Research found that 76% of online shoppers would prefer buying products with information in their native language. 40% state that they will never buy from websites in other languages.

The findings of this study are of great significance for global businesses. Dr. Donald A. DePalma, CSA Research’s Chief Research Officer stated:Our 2020 findings show that if a company chooses to not localize the buying experience, they risk losing 40% or more of the total addressable market—the consumers that prefer selecting and buying products at local-language sites. While they may want the products or experiences on the English-language site, most would rather think, act, and buy in their own language.”

The research shows very clearly that nationality increases the demand for local-language content in online transactions.
